Campus life and student support

Hostels, daily routine, medical care, discipline and how parents stay connected on DMA’s residential campus in Mussoorie.

Living on campus

Students live on the residential campus near Mall Road, Mussoorie, in a focused, disciplined mountain environment away from city distractions. Living away from home, they gradually become independent, responsible and self-disciplined, and learn time management, routine and teamwork: habits that matter in a defence career.

  • Separate hostels for boys and girls
  • 24×7 CCTV surveillance
  • Male and female wardens who are retired Army personnel and stay with the students
  • About 40 students per batch, according to class

Health, safety and well-being

Medical care

An in-house nurse for primary medication, a tie-up with a local community hospital, and DMA’s own cabs and vans for emergency transport.

Soft discipline

Ex-Army wardens build routine, consistency, responsibility and accountability. Mistakes are corrected, not punished.

Settling in

Special staff and a psychologist help with homesickness through conversation, small responsibilities and group activities, with controlled family communication.

For parents

How you stay connected

  • Monthly progress report (SPR): academic results, physical fitness, attendance and overall progress.
  • Evening calls: about 10–15 minutes before dinner. Encourage your child, and avoid repeated questions such as “are you missing home?”.
  • The warden: the warden stays with the students and is your point of contact for any issue.
  • Outings: a supervised recreational outing once a month. Personal outings need a written application from the parents and the student; students wear the academy T-shirt and identity card.

Beyond the classroom

Students plan and organise real activities themselves, including a fresher’s party, tours, events and sports tournaments, to build resourcefulness, planning and execution.

Meet-ups with former students now serving in the Army, motivational talks by ex-SSB assessors and visits to the IMA Passing Out Parade keep the goal in sight.

Visiting the campus

The campus is about 35 km from Dehradun Railway Station. A shuttle from the airport or railway station is available at the family’s own expense. Visiting parents can stay nearby at their own expense; DMA has tie-ups with hotels for discounted rates and an in-house travel agency, Fly Zone. Contact and visit
